With most of the American citizens who were trapped in Libya on their way home, the White House announced Friday that the U.S. will impose unilateral sanctions on Libya. White House spokesman Jay Carney told the Washington Post President Obama has been in conversation with European leaders about multilateral sanctions, and he’s meeting with the Secretary General of the U.N. Monday to discuss the situation. Other nations are already on board: The Daily Telegraph says British officials are preparing to freeze $32 million worth of Qaddafi assets in Great Britain, and on Thursday, the Swiss government announced that it was freezing the dictator’s assets.
