CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

Two men are dead, and a security guard injured, after a bar brawl on the city’s east side early Thursday morning.

The double shooting happened around 1 a.m. at the Top Cats Pub & Grill on East 67th and St. Clair.

Police say the victims and eight to ten other men were assaulting the bar security guard, Byron Gilson. During the assault, the men tried to take Gilson’s firearm and drag him into a restroom. As Gilson was being assaulted and dragged, he discharged his firearm and fatally struck two of the men, 33-year-old Roosevelt Guins and 25-year-old Alexander Burks.

After discharging his weapon, the other men backed off, however, they did not leave. Gilson discharged his weapon into the ceiling, and the men fled the scene.

Gilson was conveyed to Euclid Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
