A Manchester, Conn. woman is preparing to embark on an ambitious adventure, trekking 7,000 miles across the continent of Africa.

Amy Russell hopes to average 20 miles per day, six days a week to raise money for clean drinking water for people in underdeveloped countries.

Russell’s organization, Walk4Water is sponsoring the effort in the hopes that she will raise upward of $8 million dollars for wells, filtration systems and other water-related projects.

In Africa, her group will carry what it needs in backpacks, camping along the way or staying with people who have already agreed to help them during their trek. Russell said each walker expects to go through 14 pairs of shoes.
