CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

Cleveland Police were called to the Marathon Gas Station on Woodland Ave near E. 55th for shots fired just after 3AM on Sunday.

Once on scene, police saw a crowd of people and found the victim, who had multiple gunshot wounds.

EMS transported the victim, identified as James Gray, to MetroHealth Medical Center.

People on scene told police that they heard several shots, but didn’t see anything.  They stated to police that this shooting was a retaliation to the shooting on Longwood last Saturday.

In that shooting, a 15-year-old girl, Danica Nelson was struck by a stray bullet and killed.

At the hospital, Gray told police that he was at the gas station when several men surrounded him and started shooting at him.  He said he recognized the man that shot him.

When police asked him this shooting was a retaliation from the Longwood shooting, he told police he didn’t know.

He then refused to give police any more information.

Once examined by doctors, it was discovered the victim had been shot 8 times, in his legs, back, chest and finger.

He’s currently listed in fair condition at Metro.

Police are still investigating to see if there is any connection to the Longwood Avenue shooting.
