CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

A total of 706 firearms are now off the streets, thanks to the 2011 Multi-Community Greater Cleveland Gun Buy-Back event!

Citizens in the cities of Cleveland, Euclid, Lakewood, Parma, and Shaker Heights lined up on foot and in cars beginning at 8:30 a.m. to exchange firearms for incentives including their choice of a $100 Dave’s Supermarket, Target or Shell gift card in addition to tickets to an upcoming Cleveland Cavaliers and Monsters game and an entry into a raffle for a chance to win up to $1,000.

Firearms of all makes and models were surrendered by people as varied as the weapons themselves. Many of those turning over weapons in this “no questions asked” program thanked the many officers on hand that gladly passed out gift cards and raffle tickets. Some citizens expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to rid their households of weapons that they feared may someday lead to a tragedy.
