An NBC News/ Marist Poll has the pizza magnate  turned Presidential hopeful with a four-percentage point lead against Mitt Romney. In Florida, the two are in a statistical dead heat.

In South Carolina, it looks like it shaping up to be a two-way race between Romney and Cain. Cain got 30% and Romney got 26% of likely Republican primary voters. Rick Perry came in third with 9% and Gingrich came in fourth at 6%. Fifteen percent are undecided.

“This first test of candidate strength in the South is shaping up right now as a two-way contest between Cain and Romney,” says Lee Miringoff, director of The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion.  “Team Romney has to be concerned about Cain’s 40% lead among likely South Carolina voters who strongly support the Tea Party.”
