Emotions were super high amongst NBA fans when it was announced that New Orleans Hornets player Chris Paul would be traded to the LA Lakers to play alongside Kobe and in return LA Lakers forward Lamar Odom would be going to New Orleans and Pau Gasol to the Houston Rockets.   With Lamar playing in the city of LA for most of his 12 year career as well as most of his money outside of basketball being wrapped up in his many business ventures with Khloe, of course he was not too happy to hear the news.  In a radio interview with Stephen Smith of 710 ESPN, he was quoted as saying,

I haven’t heard anything. Can’t believe I’d be treated like a number.  LA is home. Maybe I rubbed people the wrong way by doing the [reality] show.

Before Khloe could even figure out how she’d like her first scoop of Louisiana Gumbo and before Kris Jenner could plan a Khloe and Lamar take on New Orleans, NBA Commissioner David Stern intervened  and all talks of the deal were called off. All players involved in the trade were told to report to their teams training camps on Friday.  According to Yahoo:

NBA commissioner David Stern has killed the New Orleans Hornets’ trade of Chris Paul after several owners complained about the league-owned team dealing the All-Star point guard to the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Some owners pushed Stern to demand the trade be nullified, and the Hornets be made to keep Paul on the roster for the foreseeable future, sources said. A chorus of owners were irate with the belief that the five-month lockout had happened largely to stop big-market teams from leveraging small-market teams for star players pending free agency.

“The deal is off,” a source involved in the talks told Y! Sports. “It’s dead.”

Meanwhile, Chris Paul probably was more elated about the trade than Lamar. When it was announced that the deal was off, he simply tweeted:

ESPN, in the meantime, reported that Chris Paul was seeking legal action

And Lamar Odom had some words of his own

Amusing enough (and why sometimes, you have to love twitter) – Lamar ended up calling a fan ‘Pudding’ for coming at him for being emotional after hearing that he was traded:

This whole trade fiasco reminds me of someone winning the lotto and then finding out they were sold the wrong ticket. If the trade had went through as planned, the Lakers were anticipating getting Dwight Howard as well which would have made them another Three Kings type super team like Miami.

Fortunately for Chris Paul, he can opt out of his contract with the Hornets after this season and become a free agent. Let the NBA games begin.

Updated: Although the trade did not go through, Khloe says she would have been willing and able to go wherever Lamar was traded to
