From Identity Fraud to Cruelty to Animals — an Akron woman is facing 33 charges.

Police say Brandi Tomko wrote prescriptions and even performed surgery on animals, but she is not listed as a licensed veterinarian or vet tech.

Tomko was working as an office clerk at C&A Animal Hospital in Akron when she committed the crimes.

Brandi was left in charge when the owner left the state for a while. But she quickly ran the business into the ground, and when she stopped paying the legitimate veterinarians who worked here, of course they quit. Brandi couldn’t let the doors close because she needed the cash. Detectives say she’s addicted to heroin.

“She sounded like she knew what she was talking about,” said Kenny Reymann.

Kenny Reymann took Charlie, his dog of 13 years to C&D. Brandi did the exam, drew blood even diagnosed Charlie.

“That’s what she told me was wrong with him. She told me she could save him, could give me 3 more years,” said Kenny Reymann.

After four days Kenny took Charlie home. Brandi said he would be fine.
