The shortest president, James Madison, stood a mere 5 feet, 4 inches. That works out to 64 inches—6.8 inches below the presidential average of 70.8 inches. At 73 inches, Obama is taller than average, though if he were a professional basketball player, he’d be something of a small fry.

According to data from the 2007-08 season—the most recent available on the league’s website—the average NBA player stands just below 6 feet, 7 inches tall.
