The child dropped the gun safely when approached by cops and was unharmed. But the gun’s owner, 19-year-old Queshawn King (pictured), was arrested for carrying the weapon in his car. King was also charged with a “misdemeanor count of endangering the life and health of a child, and misdemeanor possession of a gun without a valid firearm owner’s identification card,” according to police.

King was one of six people in the car when cops decided to stop it cause they saw two children without child seats or seat belts. The gun-tooting 3-year-old’s mother and grandmother were also in the vehicle.

The Tribune has more on this story:

As a police officer walked toward the vehicle in the 3800 block of West Gladys Avenue, the officer saw King, who was in the rear passenger seat making “furtive” downward movements toward the 3-year-old child who was sitting next to him, the police report said. While talking with King, the officer found him to be “extremely nervous,” according to the report. A police sergeant who was approaching the vehicle’s front passenger side then saw the toddler holding a handgun, the report said.

When the sergeant tried to recover the weapon, the child threw it to the floor of the vehicle, according to the report.

The 9 mm handgun had eight live rounds in it, but it did not discharge at any time, police said. No one was hurt.

King was booked into the Cook County Jail and his bond is set at 50,000.
