NORTHEAST OHIO (WOIO) –

Residents who live in eastern suburbs of Cleveland are experiencing discolored water.

The water is safe to drink and it is not harmful if ingested, but customers should refrain from doing laundry since it can stain your clothing. THERE IS NO BOIL ALERT IN EFFECT.

The discoloration of the water is a result of manganese which is a natural occurring in the lake.

Unfortunately, higher than normal levels entered into our Nottingham Treatment Plant which services the impacted areas. As a result, it has caused the water to have a yellowish color.

Crews are working to flush out the system as quickly as possible and we expect the water to clear up in a few days.

The following suburbs are being impacted:

Cleveland – Eastern Borders

Bratenahl

Cleveland Heights

East Cleveland

Euclid

South Euclid

Gates Mills

Highland Heights

Lyndhurst

Mayfield

Mayfield Heights

Richmond Heights

Pepper Pike

Beachwood

Shaker Heights

University Heights
