In his first public comments since being admitted to the Mayo Clinic and treated for bipolar disorder, Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. said he is “not well” and visits the hospital twice a day.

The Illinois Democrat said he visits George Washington University hospital twice a day, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Jackson was smoking a cigar on the stoop of his $1.3 million home in DuPont Circle during the interview.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported last week the congressman was the target of a federal investigation. On Monday, The Wall Street Journal reported the investigation was nearing completion, and that it focused on allegations that Jackson used campaign funds to decorate his house.

Jackson was admitted to the Rochester, Minn.-based clinic in mid-June and was released in September. Jackson’s father, Jesse Jackson, Sr., told The Daily his son was “just trying to clear his head. He’s been under medical supervision.”

The congressman’s Chicago-based seat is considered safe for Democrats, but Jackson’s lawyers have asked the Justice Department to hold off an indictment until after the election.

On the flip side… Jackson is under some heat after he was spotted leaving a bar on two occasions last week with two different women.

Two sources said that they reportedly saw Jackson drinking at Bier Baron Tavern on Tuesday and Wednesday. They also said that each night he was with a different woman.

“They were laughing and very focused on each other,” an insider revealed. “Not sure when they left but I saw them there around 10:30 p.m. They didn’t appear intoxicated or loud, but were definitely enjoying themselves.”
