PARMA, Ohio – The historic Parma Theatre on Ridge Road caught on fire early Friday evening.

The movie theater, which opened in 1936, closed on Sept. 9. The theater stopped showing movies during the week because of poor attendance at the beginning of the year, but there was a recent push to save it.

The building was for sale with an asking price of $795,000, plus it already needed a new roof, parking lot and various interior repairs.

NewsChannel5 has a crew on the scene so check back for updates as more information becomes available.
