Durand Ford Jr. is furious with Washington DC Fire and EMS for failing to save his father’s life, after his father waited 31 minutes for them to arrive, then sticking him with a bill!

Durand Ford Sr. died after suffering breathing problems on January 1. Records show that his son called 911 about 1:25am and begged for an ambulance, according to NBC Washington. Washington, DC had no nearby ambulances available and had to request help from nearby Prince George’s County, Maryland.

However. records show that Washington Fire and EMS didn’t make the call for assistance until 1:47am – 22 minutes after first receiving the Ford family’s call for help. Within seconds, the county dispatched an ambulance – though it came from a station seven miles away.

By the time it arrived, 1:58am, Mr. Ford, seen below, was dead.

‘We’re still grieving about the situation,’ his son said. ‘(We’re) very angry about what happened and the service we did not receive from the district.’ The department says a fire engine with firefighters arrived nine minutes after the call – though all ambulances were tied up on other calls.

DC City Councilwoman Yvette Alexander, who represents the Ford family’s ward, said the fire and ambulance department does not usually bill families when the patient dies. ‘This seems quite unusual, and I will help the family resolve this matter,’ she told NBC Washington.
