CLEVELAND – The Tribe is set to take the field in Cleveland for the first time in the 2013 campaign. First pitch between the Indians and Yankees is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. Monday. Before you head out to Progressive Field, here are five things you should know.

1. Tickets

It took only six minutes for tickets for Monday’s home opener to sell out when they went on sale to the public back in February. If you’re still desperate to get a seat inside the ballpark, you can check out options such as Stubhub, though you may have to pay more than face value. Tickets for the rest of the opening series can be purchased online at Indians.com or by calling 216-420-HITS.

2. Parking/transportation

There are a number of options for getting down to the game. Drive and park in Gateway East Garage adjacent to Progressive Field for $12 advanced purchase. Other lots in the area range from about $5 to $20. Take a free shuttle from Ohio City operating two hours before and one hour after the game. If the weather is nice enough, ride over using the new bike lane on the Lorain-Carnegie bridge. Bike racks are located on Gateway Plaza.

3. Pregame festivities

Get downtown early and you can partake in some fun right outside Progressive Field. The team’s Rally Alley kicks off at 1:35 p.m. with live entertainment, plus discounted food and drinks. Progressive Field gates open at 2 p.m. and the Indians suggest all fans be in their seats by 3:25 p.m. A number of father-son duos including Nick Swisher and his dad, Steve; Sandy Alomar Jr. and Sr., and manager Terry Francona and his dad, Tito, will throw out simultaneous first pitches.

4. Cheaper concessions

You will be able to get more bang for your buck at the ballpark this season. The Indians have lowered the price of a number of concession items, most notably a 12-ounce beer to $4 and hot dog to $3.

5. Between the lines

The Indians come into Monday’s game with a 3-3 record after losing two at the hands of the Rays, following an opening series win in Toronto. Hampered by injuries, the Yankees are 2-4 to start the season. Ubaldo Jimenez will be on the mound for the Indians, while Hiroki Kuroda takes the ball for the Yankees.
