CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson held a mini news conference on Thursday in regards to the three women rescued after years in captivity.

Mayor Jackson urged well-wishers to give Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight space. He said the women need room, space and a time to heal.

According to Mayor Jackson, the city has fielded calls and emails from “around the world.” Thailand, the UK and Australia.

Jackson also ordered police officers not to release any information about the case without permission.

The mayor says the move is not designed to conceal or withhold information from the public, rather to ensure due process and for the compassion of the women and their families.

The mayor will also not comment on how police have handled investigation thus far.

Suspected kidnapper Ariel Castro is jailed on $8M bond.
