Burton Carpenter is facing numerous charges despite passing a background check.

WESTMINSTER, Colo. – An Adams 12 school bus driver accused of sideswiping a vehicle while transporting a freshman football team from a game was charged with driving under the influence on Monday.

The Adams County district attorney said 57-year-old Burton Carpenter also faces charges of careless driving, reckless endangerment and child abuse. His bond was set at $4,000.

Carpenter drove 37 students and four adults from Prairie View High School in Brighton to Mountain Range High School in Westminster and then sideswiped a vehicle as he entered the school parking lot, Westminster police said. No injuries were reported.
