Jennifer Hudson is one of the stars in the upcoming holiday film, “Black Nativity.” In the movie, Hudson plays Naima, who became pregnant with her son, Langston (a nod to the writer of the play on which the film is based, Langston Hughes), when she was just 15 and goes back home to visit her religious family for Christmas.

The actress and singer spoke with NewsOne Now‘s Roland Martin about the universal message in the movie. “We’re telling a story that — so many are going through this,” Hudson said. “I hope that, if nothing else, they don’t feel alone and they feel like there’s someone out there that understands what they’re going through. And hopefully they can be inspired and get through it.”

Hear what else she told Martin, in the clip below.

“Black Nativity” hits theaters on November 27.
