CHICAGO, IL – A police officer shot and injured a driver trying to get away after allegedly stealing from a Kohl’s store around 10 p.m. Thursday night in Romeoville, according to WGN.

Police were responding to a report of two men stealing clothing from the store at 261

S. Weber Road and saw the two men running from the store to a car and chased after them. One officer got his arm caught in the suspect’s car during a struggle.

The driver of the car ignored commands to stop and dragged the officer, police said.

A second officer nearby fired three to four shots at the driver, striking him in the shoulder.

The injured officer and the driver were hospitalized with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.

Robert Russell is charged with attempted murder, shoplifting and obstructing a police officer. Gerald Chamberlain is charged with felon theft. As of Friday afternoon, the driver had not been charged.
