Cleveland is upping its game for New Year’s Eve Tuesday night.

Drew Carey, fireworks, countdown clocks and beer gardens are ready to go, but several things will not be there.

The list of banned items is long and may catch some revelers off-guard. Among the banned items: purses or bags of any kind, eyedrops, cans or bottles of any kind, audio/video equipment, coolers and fireworks.

Security is top of mind as thousands are expected at the first event of its kind in years downtown.

Cleveland police will be running a heavy presence — with help from the FBI, The Office of Homeland Security and other police agencies.

While plans have been in the works since May, one question they do not have an answer to remains: How many people will attend?

“It could be 15,000 people, it could be much higher than that,” says co-chair Tony Madalone. “We haven’t had a New Years Eve party this big in Cleveland in 15 years — we’re just going to cram a lot of people in here.”
