George Zimmerman*You might think he’s full of sh*t, but despite all the legal drama before and after being acquitted for Trayvon Martin’s murder and his personal issues with his estranged wife and ex-girlfriend, George Zimmerman says America hasn’t seen who he truly is.

In a videotaped interview released Wednesday, the former neighborhood watchman tells divorce attorneys that he is trying to be a good person while also trying to figure out who he is. Zimmerman’s motivation for doing the 20-minute interview, the Associated Press reports, is to “show America who I truly am.”

During the chat, Zimmerman admitted that his daily life revolves around worrying constantly about his safety.

“The only thing consistent is having to always look over my shoulder and be concerned about others around me,” he told an off-camera attorney as he revealed that although he is trying to be a faithful family man, he realizes that everything he does, good or bad, is heavily scrutinized.

Zimmerman goes on to shine a light on his participation in a program in which he was a mentor to an African-American boy in the video, which was made Friday in Orlando. He also describes his efforts to raise awareness about a local case in which the son of a white police lieutenant beat a black homeless man.

Regarding his future, Zimmerman revealed that he would like to be able to go to law school and become a civil rights or defense attorney some day.

“On a grand scale, I would like to make enough of an impact on the judicial system so that what happens to me never happens to anybody,” he said.

Zimmerman’s interview is the latest happening to occur since his acquittal last summer for the fatal shooting of Martin. Since then, Zimmerman has generated headlines for encounters with the law pertaining to confrontations with his now-estranged wife, Shellie, and former girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe. Zimmerman emerged from both situations unscathed without an arrest in light of no charges pursued against him by neither Scheibe nor Shellie Zimmerman.

Speaking with the AP, Howard Iken, one of Zimmerman’s divorce attorneys, explained that the divorce process involves “moving on and having a new life.” The release of the video, Iken added, helps Zimmerman by allowing him to control his message.

“The publicity surrounding him is unfair and misinformed, especially the allegations he is a racist or bigot,” Iken said Wednesday.
