I’ve been dreaming of opening a place like Red Rooster in Harlem for years, since even before I moved to the neighborhood.

Harlem has been a hub of culture and entertainment for decades, and I couldn’t help but be tempted by its allure. A place so alluring, I’ve made it my home.

Harlem is legendary. Harlem was and is the place to be. Good food, drink and music were not just the standard, but law, and anything less was just unacceptable.
The Red Rooster, the original that was located further uptown on Seventh Avenue (now Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard, named after one of its most frequented guests), was the place to be.
Black notables in politics, sports, music and literature like Willie Mays, Nat King Cole and James Baldwin filled the space to enjoy the daily specials and live jazz from some folks who may now fill your mom and dad’s LP stacks.
Tales from the nights filled the gossip pages of Jet Magazine, attempting to make these well-knowns anonymous yet not always doing a very good job of it.
The new Red Rooster will reflect this tradition with contemporary twist. A celebration of Harlem, both old and new.
It’s a place where you can enjoy our twice-fried yard bird while listening to today’s up and comers. Enjoy a tarte hot out of the oven, prepared with tomatoes bought fresh from the farmer’s market down the street at Marcus Garvey Park. Surround yourself in local culture with international appeal with artworks from artists Ming Murray Smith, Sanford Biggers and more. Be brave and hop on the speakeasy stage for open-mic night. Vibe with a crowd of hip, beautiful people, making friends out of strangers.
Red Rooster is a place for everyone, from every background and every class. Join us for a new Harlem.
We’re opening our doors real soon and can’t wait for you to visit when we do but, meanwhile, kick back at home with a taste of the Rooster. Try our signature drink, the Uptown Girl:
1 oz Vodka

1/2  oz Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur

1/2 oz Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice

Pomegranate seeds

Sparkling water or tonic

Combine the vodka, ginger liqueur and grapefruit juice. Muddle a few pomegranate seeds and add to the vodka mix. Strain and pour over ice in a double rocks glass.  Top with club soda or tonic. Garnish with a grapefruit peel.
