35-year-old Chris Draft married the love of his life, Keasha, in a touching ceremony November 27th in Atlanta.  The bride was battling cancer and used a wheelchair to meet her groom down the aisle.  But amazingly walked the last few steps, as seen in their wedding video below.

The fairytale came to an end Tuesday–one month to the day of their wedding–as Keasha (Rutledge) Draft lost her battle with cancer, a longtime friend of Chris’ has confirmed to TheYBF.com.

Chris’ friends are also asking everyone to send prayers to the families as they navigate this difficult time.  The couple’s wedding “trailer” is below:

The panel’s guidelines had long advised men over 75 to forgo the tests and the new recommendation extends that do-not-screen advice to healthy men of all ages.

The recommendation by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, being made public on Friday, will not come as a surprise to cancer specialists.

Yet, most men over 50 have had at least one PSA blood test, the assumption being that finding cancer early is always a good thing.

Not so, said Dr. Virginia Moyer of the Baylor College of Medicine, who heads the task force.

“We have put a huge amount of time, effort and energy into PSA screening and that time, effort and energy, that passion, should be going into finding a better test instead of using a test that doesn’t work,” Moyer told The Associated Press late Thursday.

Too much PSA, or prostate-specific antigen, in the blood only sometimes signals prostate cancer is brewing. It also can mean a benign enlarged prostate or an infection. Worse, screening often detects small tumors that will prove too slow-growing to be deadly. And there’s no sure way to tell in advance who needs aggressive therapy.

The task force analyzed all the previous research on this subject, including five major studies, to evaluate whether routine screening reduces deaths from prostate cancer. The conclusion: There’s little if any mortality benefit.

But there is harm from routine screening: impotence, incontinence, infections, even death that can come from the biopsies, surgery and radiation, Moyer said.

One study estimated 2 of every 5 men whose prostate cancer was caught through a PSA test had tumors too slow-growing to ever be a threat.

Yet Moyer said 30 percent of men who are treated for PSA-discovered prostate cancer suffer significant side effects, sometimes death, from the resulting treatment.

About a third of men ages 40 to 60 have brewing prostate cancer but “the huge majority of them will never know it in their lifetime if they are not screened,” she added.

The task force previously had considered the evidence for or against PSA screening inconclusive. The new recommendation says not to routinely screen. That recommendation is a draft that is open for public comment beginning next week.

“We have been long concerned, and it has been apparent for some years, that some supporters of prostate cancer screening have overstated, exaggerated and in some cases misled men about the evidence supporting its effectiveness,” said Dr. Otis Brawley of the American Cancer Society in a statement. “We need balanced, truthful information to be made widely available to physicians and patients when making important health decisions.”

The society had not seen the new recommendation yet, but has long advised men to consider the pros and cons of PSA screening before deciding on their own.

Moyer said the recommendation only means that doctors shouldn’t bring up the option for healthy men. If a man asks for a PSA test and wants it after being informed of the evidence, he should receive it, she said. Likewise, it’s appropriate to use PSA tests to examine a man with possible prostate symptoms.

Dr. Therese Dolecek of the University of Illinois at Chicago had conducted a study of the disease and its affect on African American women.

“This is a perfect example of a scientific area where there is a paucity of information, and this study is going to help fill that hole,” says Dr. Therese Dolecek of University of Illinois at Chicago, and lead investigator in the study.

Dolecek’s team is investigating the risk factors specifically associated with black women who develop the disease. They aim to enroll 1,000 African American women recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The study began last year and is scheduled to end in 2015.

The critical problem with ovarian cancer is that it’s often diagnosed late in the disease, when treatments are not as successful.

Even though the radiation emissions of cell phones have been linked to disease, you do not have to give up your cell phone chatting habits completely. Here are ten tips that can protect you from cell phone radiation, so that you can stay connected to your favorite folks:

1. Do not make calls when your bars are low.
This forces the phone to work harder to establish a connection, making it release more radiation.

2. Do not use your cell phone in enclosed spaces, such as elevators or cars.
Enclosures force phones to release more radiation to connect to signals.

3. Refrain from making cell calls while driving.
Moving rapidly while talking requires your cell phone to reconnect frequently to new towers, causing large amounts of energy to be released.

4. Limit the use of your cell phone.
Keep calls short, and text instead of calling whenever possible.

5. Do not keep a cell phone on your body while it is on.
The body can also absorb harmful radiation, so keep it away from your torso when not in use.

6. Use the speakerphone.
If you are alone and won’t annoy others, this is a great way to talk while keeping the phone at a safe distance from your head.

7. If you use Bluetooth, switch the device from side to side.
This will prevent the radiation exposure from being concentrated on one side.  While the radiation from a Bluetooth device is lower than that of a cell phone, there is still some risk.

8. Use a wired headset with a ferrite bead.
The wire that attaches the listening device to your phone also transmits radiation into the ear, but it is far less than having the cell phone directly next to your head. By attaching a ferrite bead, which you can purchase at many electronics stores, you further reduce the radiation transmission.

9. Only let children use cell phones in an emergency.
All little kids want cell phones these days, but the radiation from these devices penetrates much further into their smaller brains. Don’t let them use cell phones routinely.

10. Invest in a low radiation cell phone.
Different devices emit varying levels of radiation, so it’s worth investigating whether a low radiation cell phone might be right for you. In addition, no matter what your phone model is, follow the manufacturer’s advice about usage, which often contains directions for how to use and carry your phone to limit radiation exposure.

“What microwave radiation does in most simplistic terms is similar to what happens to food in microwaves, essentially cooking the brain,” Dr. Keith Black, chairman of neurology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles said. “So in addition to leading to a development of cancer and tumors, there could be a whole host of other effects like cognitive memory function, since the memory temporal lobes are where we hold our cell phones.”

Jackson said in an interview with The Associated Press that he’s visited with the legendary singer four or five times recently, including a few days ago, and that Franklin’s “spirits are high, and her faith is strong.”

“She’s conscious, communicating and taking daily walks up and down the hall,” said Jackson, who accompanied Franklin on one of those walks during his most recent visit.

Franklin announced last week that she had undergone a surgical procedure, but neither she nor her publicist have said what is ailing the 68-year-old Queen of Soul.

Jackson wouldn’t either, other than to say his friend of more than 40 years is responding well to the surgery.

“She has amazing strength — body, religion and faith,” Jackson said. “It’s what he keeps her going.”

Last month, Franklin announced she was canceling all concert dates and personal appearances through May on the orders of her doctors.

It’s been a tough few months for Franklin, whose hits include “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “Chain of Fools” and her signature song, “Respect.”

Her son, Eddie, was beaten by three men at a Detroit gas station in September. And a month before that, Franklin broke ribs in a fall, causing her to miss two free concerts in New York.

Franklin is one of the most honored singers in American history, having won numerous Grammys, the National Medal of Arts and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She also has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

He told The San Diego Union-Tribune the cancer was discovered last month and he faces seven to eight weeks of treatment – radiation five times a week and chemotherapy once a week.

“The doctors have told me they feel they caught the cancer early and there was not much of it there,” he said in a story published Saturday.

The parotid cancer was diagnosed after the former Padres star had a third round of surgery since 1997 to remove a tumor on the parotid gland. The previous procedures found no malignancies.

Gwynn is San Diego State’s baseball coach, and the school confirmed Gwynn’s condition to The Associated Press. Gwynn plans to return to his alma mater, which he has coached since 2003.

“They say this is a slow moving but aggressive form of cancer,” Gwynn said. “I’m going to be aggressive and not slow moving in treating this.”

Gwynn said he was concerned the cancer could be linked to his career-long practice of using chewing tobacco.

“I haven’t discussed that with the doctors yet, but I’m thinking it’s related to dipping,” said Gwynn, who resumed the practice of using chewing tobacco after the first two surgeries.

Dr. Kevin Brumund, a neck and throat specialist at the UCSD Moores Cancer Center, told the newspaper there have been no studies linking parotid cancer and chewing tobacco, which is now banned in minor league baseball.
