In the final minutes of the Super Bowl, the New York Giants were pinned on their own 12-yard line, and had to get to the end zone in 3:46. Eli Manning made a quick strike to get into the New England Patriots territory but needed Mario Manningham to execute a perfect sideline catch to make it work.

Perfect execution is exactly what Manningham did. With Patrick Chung on his back, Manningham not only made the catch, but also had his feet in perfect position for the 38-yard throw to be called a catch. Patriots coach Bill Belichick challenged the call, but the officials confirmed what Manningham already knew. He made that catch. Read and watch video here

Besides bring a Grammy winning R&B superstar, John Legend is a huge sports fan. He made an appearance on First Take where he sang a parody of his signature ballad, “Ordinary People.” Legend changed the lyrics to reference Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith’s constant debates about Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow. John Legend basically said everything sports fans were thinking. Yes, Tebow’s wins come out of nowhere, but we don’t want to hear about that on every show. There are other players, like the ones who made it to the Super Bowl.

New York– Thousands of shirts are printed prior to the Super Bowl each year, declaring the contenders as the winner. Instead of throwing away the shirts of the losers, the National Football League donates the memorabilia to World Vision, an international evangelical relief and development organization working in 100 countries, and given to needy people around the world.

World Vision has similar deals with Major League Baseball, the NBA and the NHL, but football is the biggest generator of shirts.

Next month, a group of pro football players, including Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, will fly to Uganda to hand out shirts.

Wisconsin — Aaron Rodgers at long last casts his own shadow. All it took was a Super Bowl victory for the Green Bay Packers.Capping one of the greatest postseasons for any quarterback, Rodgers led the Pack to their first NFL championship in 14 years Sunday, 31-25 over the Pittsburgh Steelers. They reclaimed the Vince Lombardi Trophy, named for their legendary coach who won the first two Super Bowls and is making his own star turn in New York in the play named after him.

Rodgers, the game’s MVP, thrilled his legion of Cheesehead fans with a spectacular six-game string that should finally erase the bitterness of the Brett Favre separation in Green Bay.

After sitting for three long years before Favre left in 2008, Rodgers is now equal with Favre in Super Bowl wins, and he extended the Packers’ record of NFL titles to 13, nine before the Super Bowl era.

“You can stop it now,” veteran receiver Donald Driver said. “Aaron’s proved that he’s one of the best, if not the best, quarterback in this game today.”

Steelers Beat Jets: Will Play Packers in Super Bowl XLV

After building a 24-point lead in the first half, the Pittsburgh Steelers held off a New York Jets rally in the fourth quarter for a 24-19 victory in the AFC championship game Sunday night.

Earlier, the Green Bay Packers went on the road and defeated the Chicago Bears 21-14 to win the NFC championship.

The Steelers and the Packers will meet in Super Bowl XLV on Feb. 6 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

On another note, Steelers coach, Mike Tomlin, already the youngest coach to win a Super Bowl, is also the first coach to make two Super Bowls before turning 40. He joins Joe Gibbs as men who advanced to two Super Bowls in their first four seasons as head coaches – Gibbs did it with the Washington Redskins. Source

Keith Fitzhugh Turns Down Chance To Play In NFL To Take Care Of Disabled Father

Atlanta — The L.A. Times is reporting on a story about Keith Fitzhugh, who turned down a chance to play for the New York Jets to work as a railroad conductor and spend time with his mother and father in Atlanta.

This week, the Jets made an offer to the free agent safety to join them as they make a run toward the playoffs and a possible Super Bowl berth.

He turned them down.

“I know I haven’t won a Super Bowl; it would be a once-in-a-lifetime chance,” Fitzhugh said. “But you only get one mom and one dad. That’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance. I’d rather be there for my mom and dad.”
