By now you’ve probably heard of the movie “The Hunger Games.” It set all types of records last weekend ( which scored a historic $155 million its opening weekend ) and will set more this weekend.

WHAT the heck is “The Hunger Games?”

Here’s the premise: each child in the 12 districts surrounding the all-powerful Capital has to put his or her name into the pool of names from which, each year, one boy and one girl from each district are chosen in a lottery, or “reaping”, to participate in “The Hunger Games,” a reality TV-style competition. You become eligible at age 12, so the year you’re 12, your name is in the pool once, when you’re 13, your name is in twice, and so on until you’re 18. Those chosen children battle each other, in front of cameras, until just one is left.

But here’s the twist. The Capital will give you more food rations each additional time you put your name into the hat.

…anywhooo… Now many prejudice ‘Hunger Games’ fans were surprised that Rue & Thresh are black! WTF!

Actors Amandla Stenberg and Dayo Okeniyi (both seen above) play the roles of Rue and Thresh, in The Hunger Games.

Despite both Rue and Thresh being described as having “dark brown skin” in Suzanne Collins’ blockbuster young adult novel, many bigoted fans were taken aback that their favorite characters were not white. Both Stenberg and Okeniyi are black.

Thousands of tweets questioning the casting of black actors in “The Hunger Games” have spurred a debate about racism on the web.

This is ONE GREAT tweet to summarize these fools!

In response to the controversy, the young tween Stenberg quietly released a statement. “As a fan of the books, I feel fortunate to be part of The Hunger Games family,” she says. “It was an amazing experience; I am proud of the film and my performance. I want to thank all of my fans and the entire Hunger Games community for their support and loyalty.”

And with that, a 13-year-old proves to have more class and grace than legions of bigots.

Stenberg’s performance was nothing short of heartbreaking, so we hope to see much more of her in the future.
