Here is some of what he had to say:

“When the Nation of Islam was strong, we were in the streets and when we were in the streets, the violence—we had it—but it was not like it is today, so Brother Farrakhan is going to lead the Fruit of Islam into the streets. We are going to help our people,” said Minister Farrakhan. “We have to take our teaching and our example to our people,” said Minister Farrakhan.

“It is a tremendous tragedy and a scourge on our community that after we have suffered so much from so many, for so long, that we would become the worst enemies of self. This is grievous. We are filled with self-hatred and I have to say to us as parents, we took our eyes off the prize,” he added.

Min. Farrakhan said that the FOI would be a powerful influence in the lives of young Black men who feel trapped in the cycle of violence. “The Million Man March” in Washington D.C., organized by Min. Farrakhan, was one of the most successful organized events in U.S. history, drawing more than 400,000 people.

(The NOI claims a much larger figure)

Despite the controversy behind the number of attendees, the march was a huge success because Black folks got together and remained peaceful. The NOI leader has also been influential in the hip hop community, helping to squash a 1990s beef between Ice Cube and Common.

Min. Farrakhan, indeed, has a history of facilitating peace.

So, if the NOI does begin a robust push for its followers to take to the streets and help quell the violence that is taking the lives of Black men across the nation at a rapid pace, how powerful would their presence be? How well would the young gangsters in Chicago and the gun-totting men in Detroit receive the NOI’s message?

Well, if the Nation can produce a Malcolm X, why can’t it produce another? Go to The Final Call for the full article on the interview.
