Lashonda Tashia Cummings (pictured) was charged with child abuse on Friday after she allegedly pushed her 3-year-old daughter down a flight of stairs and then began beating her, the Tulsa World reports.

Police were alerted to the Highland Park Apartments in Tulsa, Okla., after neighbors reportedly saw Cummings, 24, kick the girl down a flight of stair and beat her with a belt on July 28. When cops arrived on the scene, Cummings was inside of her apartment and allegedly denied them access without a search warrant. A police supervisor was able to convince Cummings to open the door after saying he would enter with or without a warrant out of concern for the child.

The Tulsa World has more:

Police found the girl naked, wet and shaking beneath a blanket inside the apartment with multiple lacerations to her back, shoulders, arm and head, according to the report.

Cummings reportedly told police the girl tried to run off and wouldn’t listen so Cummings punished her with a belt. She said the child was wet because Cummings attempted to wash the blood off of the girl after police arrived.

Cummings is being held at a local jail without bond pending a juvenile review hearing. She is also being held on warrants stemming from traffic violations.
