Tiffany West decided to close up shop just before 2 p.m. when a “nice looking man” came up to her door asking for hairstyle prices. She cracked open the door a few inches to pass the man a business card when he suddenly forced himself inside and pulled out a gun.

He announced that it was a robbery and demanded that she take off her jewelry and hand it to him. He then pointed the gun at her 7-year-old son, who the station did not identify because he is a minor.

Here is what happened next, according to West and her young son:

“At that point I threw my hands up and I said, we don’t have anything, we don’t have anything, just leave,” said Tiffany.

“He told me to go in the back,” he son said.

“I was afraid that he might’ve shot my baby. That was the scariest thing. That was the scariest thing for me,” said Tiffany.

“And I went in the office and called 911,” said her son. He did not get a chance to call police because the thief came to the back office.

“He was trying to call 911 but the guy was coming to the phone and I saw him put it down. My son, he did very well,” said Tiffany. The man pointed the weapon at both of them and demanded that Tiffany hand over a brand new laptop and then he frisked her.

“He was a robber and tried to hurt us,” said her 7-year-old.

Ironically, the robber found a gun on West that she used to protect herself and took it. She has a CCW license for the weapon. When the robber left the store, he walked past a surveillance camera on a nearby store. He is at least “5’9 with a large build, is clean cut, and has thick hair with brushed waves.”
West was clearly traumatized by the incident, but is grateful that neither she nor her son was hurt.
“At the end he hugged me and said mommy, why would someone want to rob us? I said baby, sometimes there is just bad people in this world,” said Tiffany.

The stickup lasted around seven minutes. If anyone has more information about the robbery or the suspect, please call Detroit police at (313) 596-5600.
