SOLON. Ohio – A police source tells NewsChannel5 a suspect is dead after fleeing officers during an attempted traffic stop in Solon Sunday night, in which shots were fired at officers.

The Solon Police Department said an officer conducted a traffic stop around 9:45 p.m. on Bainbridge Road at Sharondale Drive.

During the course of the stop, the offender fled in his vehicle turning on to Sunnywood Drive where he crashed.

Officers were able to re-establish contact with the suspect at that location, where they came under fire.

The Cuyahoga County Coroner was at the scene and the suspect was shot and killed according to the police source, but no details about the death have been officially released at this time.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

A NewsChannel5 crew at the scene said two police cars were towed, one hit in the windshield by bullets.

Bainbridge Road between Huntington Drive and Creekside Road and Liberty Road between Meadowdale Drive and Woodbury Avenue have reopened after authorities left the scene.
