Cornell Harvey, 26, and Eddie Tarver, 20, have been charged with first- and second-degree murder in the death of 16-month-old Carter Scott, reports the Baltimore Sun.

The child’s father, Rashaw Scott, 22, who was critically injured in the attack, believes that Harvey set him up to be killed.

Father and son were sitting in a red Chevrolet parked at the Cherrydale Apartments in Cherry Hill, police said, when three men wearing latex gloves fired at least 16 shots into the vehicle. Carter Scott was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his leg and was pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Hospital about an hour after the shooting.

His father was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he underwent surgery. Before the operation, police said, Scott described what happened before the shooting. He said Harvey called him and asked him to pick him up so they could hang out, police said in a charging document.

After Scott arrived, his son in the back seat, police said, Harvey told him to drive to the 1200 block of Cherry Hill Road and park so he could talk to a girl sitting across from them.

Scott told detectives that Harvey got out and began pacing nervously between the car and the girl. Harvey told Scott to “stay here, not too much longer,” police said.

Just then, police said, Scott saw a man in a gray Old Navy hoodie. He told detectives he saw three men shooting into the car.

“I can tell you that there are certainly more than two suspects that were involved in this and our investigation continues in order to identify them and make the arrests as necessary,” said Baltimore City State’s Attorney Gregg Bernstein.

Community leader Minister Cleda Walker said that seeing “a baby lie dying on the sidewalk because of somebody who did not care about life,” is something residents will never forget, reports Baltimore CBS Local.

Baltimore community activists held a vigil with the family Wednesday and a Prayer Walk is scheduled for Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Cherry Hill neighborhood.

Tragically, this unspeakable baby murder is becoming less rare.

As previously reported by NewsOneKoman Willis, 33, was charged with first-degree murder on May 27 in the March 11 shooting death of 6-month old Jonylah Watkins.

Baby Jonylah was shot five times on March 11 during an attack on her father, Jonathan Watkins, in the South Side neighborhood of Woodlawn.

Watkins was shot in the buttocks, face and side, but survived the hit.

Baby Jonylah was shot in the “thigh, shoulder, lung, liver and bowels,” according to family. She held on to life overnight, but died the next morning at Comer Children’s Hospital.

Her father was changing her diaper in the front seat of their van at the time of the shooting.

Antonio Santiago, 13-months-old, was shot on March 21 while being strolled by his mother, Sherry West, on a quiet, tree-lined street in Brunswick, Georgia. The distraught mother claims that two young Black men tried to rob her and when she said that she didn’t have any money, one of them shot her in the leg and ear then coldly walked over to the stroller and fatally shot her baby boy in the face.

Dominique Lang, 15, and De’Marquis Elkins, 17, have been charged with 7 and 11 counts of murder respectively.
