According to newly released figures from Attorney General Mike DeWine we could be looking at record numbers for issuing new gun permits.

So far this year, 63,481 new licenses have been issued, that number is almost as many new permits issued for all of 2012.

Mike Dawson runs Five Star Firearms in Seven Hills. He says he’s not surprised at all by this years near record stats.

“A gun shop is the first stop after they come from the hospital, after they get beat up or robbed or attacked,” says Mike.

Dawson says about 70% of his firearms classes are usually women and the elderly, but, they aren’t the only ones who want a concealed carry permit.

“I’m noticing a lot of service technicians that come out and do work for heating and air companies . They’re getting their permits, plumbers,” says Dawson.

Here’s the break down by county:

In Cuyahoga, so far this year, 515 new concealed carry permits have been issued, Lorain 77, Summit 1,023, Stark 824, Portage 529, and Medina County 359.
