19 Action News watched cyclist after cyclist ride in what appears to be a designated bike lane on Detroit Avenue, but, it’s not the real deal.
Someone actually made up their own illegal lane — it’s called “gorilla striping.”
“I was just riding on this street a day or two ago and it wasn’t there and all the sudden I just saw it now,” said Tristan Wheeler.
“It does provide people with a simple white line that they observe in their cars. So it does give me my space,” said Robert Stidham.
Bike Cleveland, a bicycle advocacy organization is already getting plenty of response on its site after someone posted a picture of the illegal lane on social media.
They don’t condone the makeshift bike lanes but many people say they are frustrated.
Fed up because the city of Cleveland announced a year ago that bike lanes on Detroit Avenue from West 25th to Lake Avenue would be installed last Spring.
