Grace Wang almost went to law school. But after spending a year volunteering with children, she fell in love with them and decided to become a teacher.

“I come in every single day and I have a chance to help Damien and Stayvon and Javier and all these people who I love and care about. I have the chance to change their life,” she said.

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District is hoping to find 100 to 150 more teachers like Wang.

Enrollment is stronger than anticipated and many teachers are retiring. So thanks to money from the Issue 107 tax levy, the district can hire new teachers to help keep class sizes down and raise student achievement.

“We expect these new teachers as part of our workforce shaping initiative are really going to help us to move results dramatically yet this school year,” CEO Eric Gordon said.
