The man shot by a police officer this morning after he attacked a woman at the Volunteers of America shelter for veterans has died.
The woman is also dead.
The man was being evicted from the shelter when he attacked an administrator with a small camping ax about 9:30 a.m. at the building on East 152nd Street.
When patrol officers arrived, they saw the man standing over the woman. He had the camping ax in one hand and a knife in the other, Sgt. Sammie Morris said.
The officers shocked the large man with a Taser. He didn’t drop to the floor, instead he turned toward the officers and charged at them. An officer fired once, Morris said.
