A Georgia couple recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary, making them one the longest-living married couples in the state. Ralph and Tillie Lee Pullin, of McDonough, Ga., met back in 1936, a day Ralph says he’ll never forget. “She had to sit on part of my knee! And that got my attention like a live wire,” he told Good Day Atlanta.
The couple kept their relationship a secret from Tillie’s mother for two years by convincing her that Ralph was dating Tillie’s older sister. On September 17, 1938, the lovebirds finally tied the knot and almost a year later became first-time parents. Now, 75 years later, the Pullins are proud parents to eight children, 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and another one on the way!
Aside from snagging media attention for their impressive achievement, the two have garnered a proclamation from the mayor and a special letter of congratulations from President Barack Obama himself. However, the two are far from braggarts, claiming they don’t deserve any credit for reaching this milestone. Instead, they attribute the success of their marriage to God.
“Our marriage was like the ocean,” Ralph explained. “I’m not trying to say big words, but you know how the ocean waves go up and down? At the bottom, God was there. And every time we hit bottom, God pushed us back up.”
