The Cleveland Browns closed in on Kansas City in the second half Sunday afternoon, but weren’t able to top the undefeated Chiefs.
The Chiefs defeated the Browns, 23-17, who fall to 3-5 on the season.
Kansas City was ahead of Cleveland 20-10 at halftime, but the score didn’t reflect the first half. The Chiefs dominated the Browns, who didn’t get a first down until late in the second quarter.
Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns. Kicker Ryan Succop kicked a pair of field goals to give the Chiefs the halftime lead.
Ironically, a missed Succop field goal in the second quarter led Cleveland to a first down; that same drive resulted in a Browns TD when Cleveland ran a flea flicker and Jason Campbell hit Josh Gordon for a 39-yard TD to cut Kansas City’s lead to 13-7.
