Before you load your car with family and presents to make that holiday trip to grandma’s house, make sure your car is ready.
Mike Hamad of Hamad Tire in Akron came up with five tips to help your trip go smoothly.
1. Tire Pressure
The first thing is to check your tire pressure. If you are not sure how much air your tires need, open your driver’s side door. You will find a placard on the door frame that will tell you the recommended tire pressure for each tire. Hamad said on a few cars you can find the placard inside the gas cap door.
2. Battery
You should also check your battery. If your battery is three to five years old, you should be fine. If it’s older, Hamad recommends you bring it to your mechanic to ensure it has enough charge in it.
3. Windshield Wipers
With Ohio’s winter weather you should check your windshield wipers and washer fluid level. If your wipers are cracked they should be replaced. Hamad said there are four different types of wipers – make sure you have the proper ones for your car. If not you may get streaking and they could lose contact with the windshield at higher speeds.
