To some, it’s a day of service. To others, it’s about remembrance. And to many, it’s about education.
However you celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, there are plenty of opportunities around town to enhance your experience.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is recognized on the third Monday of January, around the time of King’s Jan. 15 birthday.
Here are a few of the events planned for the coming days:
Cleveland Orchestra Food Drive
WHEN: Jan. 16-20
WHERE: Severance Hall, 11001 Euclid Ave., Cleveland
Donation bins will be placed in the lobbies one hour prior to each concert. Guests are invited to bring unexpired, unopened, non-perishable items to benefit the Lakewood Hunger Network.
Cleveland Clinic’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Celebration
WHEN: Friday, Jan. 17 @ 7 a.m.
WHERE: InterContinental Hotel and Conference Center, 9801 Carnegie Ave., Cleveland
An ecumenical prayer service will be followed by breakfast and a keynote address from political strategist Donna Brazile.
From Jackie Robinson to Trayvon Martin: Sanford, Florida, Then & Now
WHEN: Friday, Jan. 17 @ 6:15 p.m.
WHERE: Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple, 23737 Fairmount Blvd., Beachwood
The chief historian of the Jackie Robinson Foundation and the city manager of Sanford will discuss Jackie Robinson’s legacy and the Trayvon Martin trial.
