Cleveland residents are asking the city’s new police chief to pay more attention to neighborhood safety.

“I have always felt very safe in my neighborhood, but I don’t know that I do anymore,” said Hazel Hubbard, a Cleveland resident who lives in the Kamm’s Corners neighborhood.

Mayor Frank Jackson shuffled his top command Monday and named Calvin Williams, the deputy police chief, as the city’s police chief. Mike McGrath, Cleveland’s police chief for the past nine years, is now Cleveland’s safety director, a spot formally held by Marty Flask. Flask is now an assistant to the mayor.

Hubbard said two of her neighbors got mugged and the house across the street got broken into last year.

“I am not comfortable going out and coming in by myself,” she added.

Cleveland resident Victor Diaz isn’t comfortable either.
