The Zelma George Recreation Center on Martin Luther King Drive is a great place where kids can be kids, playing basketball or roller skating.

But late Saturday night hundreds of kids showed up at an impromptu party. Invites had been shared on Instagram. Then a fight breaks out between a group of young men.

16-year-old Marcus Scott was there.

“Started out with a fight then they start shooting and it was packed. I was just nervous when they started shooting. Too many people up here…girls,” Marcus said.

One of those girls, a 16-year-old they call ‘Mimi’ ended up a victim, shot in the hip.

She’s out of the hospital and home recovering.

“It makes me upset cuz people out here getting shot for no reason,” said 17-year-old Martell Adams, after finishing a basketball game at the Rec Center Wednesday night.
