1. SCHOOL STABBINGS

No bail: Alex Hribal, 16, has been charged as an adult after his alleged stabbing rampage at his high school in Murrysville, Pennsylvania. In all, 20 students and a security officer were stabbed or slashed yesterday with two kitchen knives the teen was allegedly carrying. Four people are in critical condition. Hribal faces four counts of attempted homicide and 21 counts of aggravated assault. His attorney says he’ll ask that the case be moved to juvenile court.

2. MISSING PLANE

Harder than you’ll ever imagine: Just how hard is it to find a plane at the bottom of the ocean? Imagine standing on one of the highest peaks of the Rocky Mountains, looking down and trying to spot a suitcase on the ground. Oh, and try doing that in total darkness. That’s basically what crews searching for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 are dealing with. The water is so deep that if you turned Washington state’s Mount Ranier upside down, its peak would reach 14,400 feet below the ocean’s surface. Only after that would you reach the spot where search teams believe the pings from the flight data recorder are coming from.

3. OSCAR PISTORIUS TRIAL

Cross-examination: It’s another day of combative and relentless questioning for Oscar Pistorius at his murder trial. Prosecutor Gerrie Nel has vowed to get to the truth about the night the Olympic sprinter shot and killed his girlfriend. “You shot and killed her. Say it – ‘I shot and killed Reeva Steenkamp,’” Nel told Pistorius yesterday. No one disputes that Pistorius killed Steenkamp. But the prosecution is trying to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he did so knowingly and intentionally. The 27-year old has admitted to the killing, but said he mistook her for an intruder in the bathroom when he fired through the door and killed her.
