Some Cleveland police officers are now carrying new helmets, shields and batons. With big events coming, we started asking questions.
19 Action News obtained pictures of new equipment for what Cleveland Police call Field Forces, units that control crowds, like protestors.
The chief’s office says 96 officers got the new equipment, but the old equipment was 10 years old. It simply needed to be replaced.
However, it’s worth noting, Cleveland just won the right for the 2016 Republican National Convention. And conventions attract protestors. Plus, no telling what to expect next month when the city will host theGay Games.
