Medical mystery: A respiratory virus is sending hundreds of children to hospitals. The culprit? Enterovirus-D68. There are no official numbers nationwide, but one hospital in metro Denver reported treating about 900 children. A CDC official says these cases might just be the “tip of the iceberg.” Why has this type of enterovirus, first identified in the 1960s, gotten so out of hand this year? Even experts are stumped.
Countering the threat: President Obama says he’ll tell the nation Wednesday “what our game plan is going forward” in the fight against ISIS. The U.S. has already gone on the offensive, launching airstrikes targeting ISIS fightersaround a key dam in western Iraq yesterday. But Obama said his speech won’t announce the involvement of ground troops.
