1. ENTEROVIRUS

Medical mystery: A respiratory virus is sending hundreds of children to hospitals. The culprit? Enterovirus-D68. There are no official numbers nationwide, but one hospital in metro Denver reported treating about 900 children. A CDC official says these cases might just be the  “tip of the iceberg.” Why has this type of enterovirus, first identified in the 1960s, gotten so out of hand this year? Even experts are stumped.

2. ISIS

Countering the threat: President Obama says he’ll tell the nation Wednesday “what our game plan is going forward” in the fight against ISIS. The U.S. has already gone on the offensive, launching airstrikes targeting ISIS fightersaround a key dam in western Iraq yesterday. But Obama said his speech won’t announce the involvement of ground troops.

3. HAWKS E-MAIL

Sense and sensibility: Bruce Levenson’s losing his Atlanta Hawks franchise because of an e-mail he wrote three years ago. In the racially charged e-mail, Levenson said the black crowds at Hawks games scared away whites, “and there are simply not enough affluent black fans to build a significant season ticket base.” Levenson was pretty outspoken earlier this year when he talked about Donald Sterling, the Clippers owner caught making racist remarks on tape.
