1. FRIGID WEATHER

‘Bomb cyclone’ strikes: That’s not a term we made up. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ordered their release after a U.S. official visited, with a letter from President Obama in tow. Hickox, who recently returned to the United States after treating Ebola patients in Sierra Leone, defied a quarantine in a tense standoff with state authorities. A judge eventually ruled in her favor. While Hickox has tested negative for Ebola, the virus is continuing its deadly march in West Africa, where it has killed almost 5,000 people.
