Lauren Hill, who inspired many with her strength and determination in facing a terminal illness, has passed away.

The Cure Starts Now’s Keith Desserich told WLWT News 5 that Hill’s family told him that she passed away at midnight.

The 19-year-old Mount St. Joseph University basketball player was diagnosed with DIPG, a form of brain cancer.

“I just remember after the MRI just sitting in the hospital room waiting, and then all of the doctors filed into the room. Lots of doctors, not just one,” Hill told WLWT News 5’s Mike Dardis in an interview last fall. “I could see it on their faces. All of their really sad faces.”

The school worked to open its basketball season two weeks ahead of schedule to allow Hill to play. She scored the first points against Hiram College in front of a sold-out crowd of more than 10,000 at the Cintas Center.

“It was a dream come true to play on the college court. And it was so thrilling to get there and be able to put my foot down and feel the roar of the crowd and the vibrations of the floor boards and I love it so much,” Hill said at the time
