The raging church debate about whether women should be allowed to preach and pastor is ongoing.

But mega pastor Bishop T.D. Jakes calls the act of muting the voices and limiting the roles of women in ministry “absolutely foolish.”

In an interview with Paul Brandeis Raushenbush, Huffington Post’s Religion editor, the Potter’s House Dallas pastor praised women’s vast contributions.

“To think that, because that intellectualism is packaged in a female frame is not usable, is absolutely foolish,” he said.

“We are recognizing that in politics. We are certainly recognizing it in business and we have to recognize it in faith as well, because although the church is a living organism, it is also an organization.”

According to Jakes, there should be a reciprocal relationship among women and the male leaders of their houses of worship. He argues that, if she is expected to support the ministry, then her ministry should, in turn, be supported by church officials.

Jakes said, “Since women make up a huge majority of the church, to silence their voice from being able to contribute while we open up their pocketbooks to contribute financially, is an injustice that I think today’s women will not accept.”
