“I want to congratulate the Oberlin Class of 2015! You all have worked so hard to make it to this moment,” said Mrs. Obama.

First Lady Michelle Obama delivered the commencement address at Oberlin College Memorial Day.

This year Oberlin College celebrates 50th anniversary of the commencement address presented by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in June 1965. Dr. King gave a commencement address entitled “Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution” and was presented with the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. The First Lady also quoted him during her speech by saying :Today you prepare to continue your journey on the clamorous highways of life.”

For nearly two centuries, Oberlin College has been a beacon of opportunity for traditionally underrepresented students. Oberlin was the first college in America to adopt a policy to admit African American students and the first to grant bachelor’s degrees to women in a coeducational program.
