Unrest: Police officers shoot and kill a man. People gather in the streets to protest. Bricks and bottles are thrown; tear gas is used. Another night in Ferguson, Missouri? No, this was right next door in north St. Louis last night, where protests broke out after an 18-year-old man was killed by police earlier in the day. Police said he was shot after pointing a gun at two officers who were carrying out a search warrant. Police used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators after they said the crowd threw things at officers
‘Big network’: The search for clues in this week’s bombing in the Thai capital extends way beyond a man in a yellow shirt. Last night police said at least 10 people may have been involved in the deadly bombing, which killed 20 people and left more than 120 wounded. Originally authorities were concentrating on a “foreigner” — dressed in a yellow T-shirt and wearing dark-framed glasses — who was seen on video putting a backpack under a bench in a shrine and then walking away.
Firefighters killed: Three firefighters died battling blazes in north-central Washington state Wednesday, when they were overcome by flames after they had a vehicle accident. Four other firefighters were injured. Gov. Jay Inslee said the fire threatens 11 counties and the lands of four Native American tribes, after already destroying more than 50 homes and burning through more than 235,000 acres. Wildfires on the West coast — aided by severe drought — have also blackened parts of California and Oregon for weeks.
