Days after news of her shocking passing broke, relatives of Natalie Cole have revealed her cause of death.
Cole’s surviving relatives explained that the singer died of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension, which led to heart failure.
The 65-year-old singer was diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension after receiving a kidney transplant in 2009, which is a rare lung disease known to cause shortness of breath, chest pain and dizziness. However, because Cole’s case was idiopathic, her exact cause of death is unknown.
“(Cole) responded well to pulmonary arterial hypertension-specific agents over many years, during which she performed many concerts worldwide, but eventually succumbed to intractable right heart failure, an outcome that unfortunately commonly occurs in this progressive disorder,” the statement reads.
We continue to send our prayers to Cole’s family as they mourn her passing.
