CLEVELAND – Lake Erie Preparatory School announced Monday four students taken to the hospital after becoming ill by eating food given to them by a classmate were released and are at home with their families.

Police said they believe the students ate drug-laced candy.

In a statement released Monday around 4:30 p.m., the school stated:

We are pleased to announce that all four Lake Erie Preparatory School students who were taken to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital earlier today have been released from the hospital and are at home with their parents. As we move to ensure the safety and security of our students, we are continuing the investigation and expect the results to be forthcoming soon. We thank the community for its concern and support.

The school, located at 14405 St. Clair Ave., said the students were immediately transported to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital
